Bitbucket Repositories as AI training data

Many companies chose Bitbucket because it sits next to Jira, so branches and pull requests often carry Jira issue keys from the first commit. That link between tickets and code changes, plus Bitbucket Pipelines results, can turn a repository into a detailed record of how work was planned, built and verified. Momentra helps you find out whether that record qualifies for an AI data partnership.

Can Bitbucket Repositories be used as AI training data?

Bitbucket repositories can be licensed as AI training data, particularly when pull requests and commits carry Jira issue keys. Pull requests with inline comments and approvals, Bitbucket Pipelines logs and linked Jira issues explaining each change are the strongest assets. Including Jira widens the review, so you decide its scope, and repository variables, SSH keys and author identities are removed.

No files needed upfront. We sign an NDA before reviewing any sample.

What can be included

You choose the scope. These are the parts of Bitbucket Repositories that are typically most useful.

  • ✓Repositories in Bitbucket Cloud workspaces or Bitbucket Data Center projects
  • ✓Pull requests with inline comments, tasks, approvals and merge checks
  • ✓Commit messages and branch names containing Jira issue keys
  • ✓bitbucket-pipelines.yml configuration and pipeline step logs
  • ✓Deployment environments and their history (test, staging, production)
  • ✓Linked Jira issues that explain the purpose of each change, where also in scope

Why AI labs value it

Ticket keys stitch the story together

When a commit says PROJ-1423 and the matching Jira issue holds the requirement, acceptance criteria and discussion, a model can see the full objective behind the diff. This pairing is a common pattern in Atlassian-based teams.

Pull request tasks show what reviewers required

Bitbucket lets reviewers open tasks on a pull request that must be resolved before merge. These tasks and their resolution commits are clear examples of feedback being acted upon.

Long-lived enterprise code

Bitbucket Server and Data Center installations often hold many years of internal enterprise code that has never been public, which adds to its scarcity.

How it is scoped, exported and anonymized

01

Cloud or Data Center export

Bitbucket Cloud data is usually pulled through its REST API, while Data Center may allow direct repository and database-backed exports. The method is chosen after the NDA, with your administrators involved.

02

Pair with Jira deliberately

Including linked Jira issues raises the value of the data, but it also widens what must be reviewed. You decide whether Jira projects are in scope and which ones.

03

Remove credentials and personal details

Repository variables, SSH keys in scripts, Pipelines logs with internal hostnames and author identities are detected and removed or replaced before further use. Code delivered for clients may need their permission or must be excluded.

How a partnership begins

01 / CONTACT

Share Basic Information

Share only your contact, company, industry, and partnership interests—no raw data required.

02 / DISCOVER

Initial Value Assessment

We discuss the data type, completeness, scarcity, and the tasks it could support.

03 / PROTECT

Define the NDA and Boundaries

Before reviewing any sample, we define confidentiality, permitted use, retention, and security requirements.

04 / PARTNER

Receive an Offer and Begin the Partnership

We provide a purchase proposal and contract, then support de-identification and secure data transfer.

Frequently asked questions

We migrated off Bitbucket Server. Is the old data still usable?
If you kept backups of the repositories and, ideally, the pull request history, it may still qualify. Older history that shows real engineering decisions can be useful even if the system is retired.
Do we have to include Jira to make Bitbucket data worthwhile?
No. Repositories, pull requests and Pipelines records can stand on their own. Jira context usually makes the record more complete, but it stays optional and in your control.
Is Momentra affiliated with Atlassian?
No. Bitbucket and Jira are named only to describe the systems your data comes from. There is no partnership with or endorsement from Atlassian.
How are pull request comments anonymized?
Names, mentions, emails and any customer details in comments are detected and removed or replaced with purpose-built tools, so the technical discussion stays while identities do not.
