Contracts & Legal Documents as AI training data
A contract archive records how a business negotiates: which clauses it pushes back on, what fallback positions it accepts, and how a first draft became a signed agreement. Redlines and playbooks show legal reasoning that is rarely visible publicly. Because contracts carry confidentiality obligations of their own, this data type needs particularly careful scoping.
Can Contracts & Legal Documents be used as AI training data?
Contracts and legal documents can sometimes be licensed as AI training data, but they need particularly careful scoping. Redlined drafts across negotiation rounds, clause libraries with fallback positions and negotiation playbooks are the most valuable assets. Each contract's confidentiality clause is checked first, privileged legal advice is excluded, and party names, signatories and identifying deal specifics are replaced.
No files needed upfront. We sign an NDA before reviewing any sample.
What can be included
You choose the scope. These are the parts of Contracts & Legal Documents that are typically most useful.
- ✓Executed agreements such as MSAs, SOWs, NDAs, SaaS terms, leases and supply agreements
- ✓Redlined drafts with tracked changes across negotiation rounds
- ✓Clause libraries and negotiation playbooks with preferred and fallback positions
- ✓CLM metadata: parties' roles, effective and renewal dates, obligations and approval history
- ✓Amendments, side letters and renewal correspondence
- ✓Internal contract review checklists and approval notes
Why AI labs value it
Negotiation in tracked changes
Successive redlines show each side's edits and what survived into the signed version. That draft-to-signature path is a strong record of negotiation reasoning.
Playbooks as rules
A playbook states the rule; the redlines show how lawyers applied it. Together they help models review contracts against a company's own positions.
Ground truth for extraction
CLM fields such as renewal dates, notice periods and liability caps, entered by people who read the contract, act as labels for clause and obligation extraction.
How it is scoped, exported and anonymized
Check confidentiality clauses first
Many contracts restrict disclosure of their own terms. Each contract type is reviewed to see whether de-identified use is permitted or counterparty consent is needed. Your counsel decides; this is not legal advice.
Exclude privileged material
Legal advice, internal opinions from counsel and documents prepared for disputes may be privileged. They are kept out of scope so privilege is not put at risk.
Remove parties and signatories
Party names, signatories, addresses, PAN, GSTIN, bank details and identifying deal specifics are replaced. Contract values can be removed or generalised.

Define the NDA and Boundaries
Before reviewing any sample, we define confidentiality, permitted use, retention, and security requirements.
Receive an Offer and Begin the Partnership
We provide a purchase proposal and contract, then support de-identification and secure data transfer.
Frequently asked questions
- Our NDAs say their terms are confidential. Can they be included?
- Possibly not, or only in a form that no longer identifies anyone. It depends on the wording. Some companies include only their own templates and playbooks, which they fully control.
- Are employment contracts in scope?
- Usually not. They contain personal data about employees and add little that commercial contracts do not. They are excluded unless there is a specific reason to include them.
- Is any of this legal advice?
- No. Momentra does not give legal advice. Your own lawyers should confirm what your contracts permit before anything is shared.
- Are templates without negotiation history useful?
- Somewhat. Templates and clause libraries have value, but negotiated redlines and executed versions are usually what make a contract set stand out.
