Tally ERP Data as AI training data
Tally is where a very large share of Indian businesses keep their books, and its data reflects Indian practice: GST-ready vouchers, Sundry Debtors and Creditors groups, TDS entries and narrations written in everyday Indian English. That local detail is hard for AI developers to find in public sources. Momentra helps businesses and CA firms assess whether their Tally data qualifies.
Can Tally ERP Data be used as AI training data?
Tally ERP data can be licensed as AI training data, and its Indian accounting detail is hard to find in public sources. Vouchers of every type with narrations, GST data covering HSN codes and GSTR reconciliation, and TDS entries are the most valuable parts. Party names, GSTINs, PANs and bank details are replaced.
No files needed upfront. We sign an NDA before reviewing any sample.

Why AI labs value it
Indian accounting conventions
Tally data reflects how Indian accountants actually classify transactions, handle GST input credit and apply TDS. Global models trained mostly on US or UK books often miss these conventions.
Narrations as natural language
Voucher narrations are short, informal notes written at the time of entry, sometimes in Hinglish. Paired with the ledger chosen, they show how people describe transactions and how those descriptions were coded.
Compliance workflows
Reconciling books with GSTR-2B, preparing returns and correcting mismatches are repeat tasks with checkable results. That makes them good material for finance agents built for India.
How it is scoped, exported and anonymized
Export to an open format
Tally's own data folder uses a proprietary format, so data is usually exported to XML or Excel from TallyPrime, or read through Tally's ODBC or XML interface. Scope is set by company and financial year.
De-identify parties and tax IDs
Party ledger names, GSTINs, PANs, bank account numbers, addresses and phone numbers are replaced. A GSTIN or PAN for a proprietorship can identify an individual, so these are treated as personal data under the DPDP Act 2023.
Clean narrations
Narrations often mention people by name, cheque numbers or UPI references. These are detected and replaced while keeping the rest of the text, since the wording itself is part of the value.

Frequently asked questions
- Does it matter if we use Tally.ERP 9 instead of TallyPrime?
- No. Both can export vouchers and masters. Older Tally.ERP 9 data with many years of history can be just as useful.
- We are a CA firm. Can we include our clients' Tally data?
- Only with each client's consent, since the books belong to them. Many CA firms start with a small set of clients who agree in writing.
- Is one company's data enough to be worth assessing?
- It can be, if the books are complete across several years. Inventory-heavy businesses or those with many voucher types tend to have more varied data.
- Will our GST numbers or turnover be revealed?
- No. GSTINs and other identifiers are removed, and how amounts are handled is agreed in the contract. The aim is that the data can no longer be traced back to your business.
