Operational SQL Databases as AI training data
The production database behind an application holds years of design decisions: hundreds of tables with cryptic names, migrations that reshaped them and stored procedures that encode business rules. Text-to-SQL and coding models struggle most with exactly this kind of real schema. Momentra helps assess whether your database structure and history could be licensed, often starting with schema and code before any rows.
Can Operational SQL Databases be used as AI training data?
Operational SQL databases can be licensed as AI training data, often starting with schema and code before any rows. Schema DDL with constraints, migration history and stored procedures are the most valuable assets for text-to-SQL and coding models. Columns are classified before any rows are sampled, password hashes and tokens are dropped, and query logs are parameterised.
No files needed upfront. We sign an NDA before reviewing any sample.
What can be included
You choose the scope. These are the parts of Operational SQL Databases that are typically most useful.
- ✓Schema DDL: tables, columns, constraints, indexes and foreign keys
- ✓Migration history from Flyway, Liquibase, Alembic, Rails or Django migrations
- ✓Stored procedures, triggers, functions and views in PL/pgSQL, T-SQL or PL/SQL
- ✓Normalised query logs, such as pg_stat_statements output or MySQL slow query logs
- ✓ORM models and data dictionaries that describe what columns mean
- ✓Representative row samples, de-identified with referential integrity preserved
Why AI labs value it
Text-to-SQL on real schemas
Public benchmarks use small, tidy schemas. Real databases with legacy naming, soft deletes and status codes stored as integers are where models fail, so they are valuable for both training and evaluation.
Schema evolution
Migration history shows how and why a data model changed as the product grew. That helps models that plan migrations or refactor data layers.
Business logic inside the database
Older systems often keep pricing, eligibility and reconciliation rules in stored procedures. That code is rarely published and is useful for modernisation work.
How it is scoped, exported and anonymized
Start with a schema-only dump
A pg_dump --schema-only or mysqldump --no-data export shows structure without any customer rows. It is usually enough for the initial value assessment.
Classify columns before sampling rows
Columns are tagged as personal data, secrets or business data. Password hashes, API keys and tokens are dropped. Personal fields are replaced with consistent tokens so joins still work.
Parameterise query logs
Raw query logs contain literal values such as emails and IDs. They are normalised so only the query shape remains.
How a partnership begins
Share Basic Information
Share only your contact, company, industry, and partnership interests—no raw data required.
Initial Value Assessment
We discuss the data type, completeness, scarcity, and the tasks it could support.
Define the NDA and Boundaries
Before reviewing any sample, we define confidentiality, permitted use, retention, and security requirements.
Receive an Offer and Begin the Partnership
We provide a purchase proposal and contract, then support de-identification and secure data transfer.
Frequently asked questions
- Can we share only the schema and code, with no data?
- Yes. Schemas, migrations and stored procedures are often valuable on their own and carry very little privacy risk.
- Do you connect to our production database?
- The process starts with a conversation, not access. Any transfer happens only after an NDA, using a method set out in the signed agreement, usually an export or a restored copy rather than a live connection.
- Our database holds our customers' data. Can it be included?
- Your customer contracts may limit how that data can be used, so they are reviewed first. In multi-tenant systems, scope is often limited to schema, code and data you clearly control.
- Which database engines are useful?
- PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle and older engines can all be useful. Less common dialects and long-lived schemas can be harder for AI developers to find.
