Screen Recordings of Real Work as AI training data
Computer-use agents learn by watching how people operate software: which menu they open, what they type, how they recover when a screen does not behave as expected. Recordings of employees completing real tasks in ERPs, CRMs, spreadsheets and internal tools capture exactly that. This data is only appropriate when the people recorded have agreed and on-screen personal data is removed.
Can Screen Recordings of Real Work be used as AI training data?
Screen recordings of real work can be AI training data for computer-use agents, but only when the people recorded have given informed consent. Recordings of real tasks in business software, synchronised click and keystroke logs with passwords never captured, and a goal statement per task are the most valuable elements. On-screen customer details and notifications are blurred.
No files needed upfront. We sign an NDA before reviewing any sample.
What can be included
You choose the scope. These are the parts of Screen Recordings of Real Work that are typically most useful.
- ✓Recordings of real tasks in business software, such as posting an invoice, updating a CRM record or reconciling a spreadsheet
- ✓Synchronised input logs: clicks, scrolls, window focus and keystrokes, with passwords never captured
- ✓A goal statement for each task and whether it was completed successfully
- ✓Narrated or think-aloud walkthroughs where the person explains each step
- ✓Existing training videos and walkthroughs made with explicit permission
- ✓Accessibility tree or DOM snapshots captured alongside video frames, where tooling supports it
Why AI labs value it
Goal, actions and outcome together
A recording with a stated objective and a known result is a complete trajectory. That is the format computer-use agents need for training and evaluation.
Long tasks across applications
Real work often moves between email, a browser, an ERP and a spreadsheet. Multi-application tasks are hard to simulate and are where current agents struggle.
Legacy and desktop software
Tools such as Tally, SAP GUI or in-house desktop apps are poorly documented online. Recordings of people using them can be hard for AI developers to find elsewhere.
How it is scoped, exported and anonymized
Record with informed consent
People being recorded should know the recordings may be licensed for AI training and agree to it, with a genuine option to decline. Recordings should be made or collected with permission for this purpose; footage from covert or general employee monitoring is not a suitable source. India's DPDP Act 2023 and GDPR may apply.
Set up clean capture
Dedicated recording sessions work best: notifications and personal chat windows closed, unrelated browser tabs shut, and test or sandbox accounts used where they behave like production.
Redact what appears on screen
Customer names, emails, phone numbers, account numbers and anything in pop-up notifications are detected and blurred in the video and removed from input logs. Recordings that cannot be cleaned reliably are excluded.
How a partnership begins
Share Basic Information
Share only your contact, company, industry, and partnership interests—no raw data required.
Initial Value Assessment
We discuss the data type, completeness, scarcity, and the tasks it could support.
Define the NDA and Boundaries
Before reviewing any sample, we define confidentiality, permitted use, retention, and security requirements.
Receive an Offer and Begin the Partnership
We provide a purchase proposal and contract, then support de-identification and secure data transfer.
Frequently asked questions
- Can we use footage from our employee monitoring software?
- Generally that is not a good source. People did not agree to that footage being used for AI training, and it often captures personal activity. Purpose-made recordings with consent are the better route. Check with your counsel; this is not legal advice.
- Do the employees recorded need to agree?
- Yes. Clear, informed agreement from the people recorded is a basic requirement, and they should be able to say no without consequences.
- Does it have to be real work, or can tasks be staged?
- Real tasks are usually more valuable because they include real mistakes and context. Tasks performed on test data in your real systems can be a good compromise.
- What kind of software is most useful?
- Business software used for multi-step work, especially ERPs, accounting tools, CRMs and internal or legacy apps. The value assessment looks at which of your tools and tasks fit best.
